Add music

Drag audio files or folders from the Finder onto the Selector Studio window. The whole window accepts them, and a dashed frame shows how many tracks are over it.

Where you drop decides where they go:

  • Anywhere on the window: the library.
  • A crate in the tree: the library and that crate.
  • The open crate’s list: that crate, at the row you dropped on. A sorted list adds at the end.
  • A set: the set, at the drop point. See Build a set.

When it finishes, a toast counts the result, for example “3 added, 1 already there”. ⌘Z takes the whole drop back.

Selector Studio reads each file’s length, tags and artwork. It never moves, retags or deletes your files.

Selector Studio spots tracks that are the same recording: the same song title, a shared artist and nearly the same length, confirmed by an audio fingerprint. A pair is offered for you to choose which copy to keep, with a quality grade for each. Make a smart crate with the Same audio rule to list them. See Smart crates.

Selector Studio grades each file High, Medium or Low from its bit rate and from how much of the spectrum is really in the audio. A lossy file re-saved as lossless is graded as what it is. You set the bit-rate lines in Settings.

A stick that holds a DJ library appears at the bottom of the tree, read only. A track on the stick that is also in your library uses the library track’s menu. A track only on the stick has Add to library, which copies the file to Music/Selector from USB and adds it.
